Lawless Hearts
It’s funny how things come back around sometime. In February of 2009, I went to see The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band at Freebird Live. I’ve loved those guys and their style of music pretty much their whole careers. I was able to get some really good shots of the guys, some of which ended up on their website.
But that’s not all of the story. The band that opened for NGDB that night was a band of local teens, Ten West. I was really impressed by these kids and their three guitar army. I got a shot of one of the guitar players, Michael, that is still one of my favorite shots that I have ever taken. I shared my shots with the band and they posted them on their sites. Michael has used my shot of him on his social media sites exclusively ever since. Unfortunately, the guys had a “creative” parting of ways, and Michael has since left the band to pursue other projects.
Well, the project that he is pursuing is the band he and his sister Alex started with some of their friends, Lawless Hearts. They play original material with a classic rock kind of feel to it. I saw them perform at Last Band Standing a little while back and I was again impressed with their show. It turns out that this was only their second gig as a band. Yeah, they were invited to a band showcase to win a possible record contract, and they’d only played as a band one other time in public. Pretty impressive, don’t you think? Well, when their management (Michael and Alex’s parents) was looking for a photographer to shoot their promo material for their new website and EP, they checked out my site, and guess which picture was one of the first ones they saw…..the one of Michael. From then on, Michael told me, I was the one they wanted. We met on an extremely hot, sunny afternoon under the Dames Point Bridge to shoot the band and individual photos. I had a blast hanging out with them; what a great bunch of kids! And I was told that they all had a good time too. Oh yeah, the pix came out really well, too. So well in fact that Mike (the dad) told me that I would be their photographer for all time! If you have the chance to catch Lawless Hearts at one of their shows, do yourself a favor and check them out. I know you’ll love them as much as I do.
